Militants Group Managed Sympathizers in ICAP

By Ali Ahmad

Something that is not commonly heard in accountancy circles is a relationship of accountants and militants groups. According to Express Tribune, SSP Omar Shahid, in a press conference on Thursday announced the capture of of four suspected Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan members. Surprisingly, one of the suspects is a student of Karachi University.

Shahid said it was a worrying trend that militants group are trying to make inroads on university campuses. “There are many others as the group have successfully managed to gain sympathizers in not only in Karachi Universtiy, but also at NED and Institute of Chartered accountants of Pakistan”, he said, adding that his unit was closely monitoring the situation.

As much as this is surprising, it also leaves with more unanswered questions. ICAP do not hold tuition classes instead tuition is provided by its registered Accounting Education Tutors (RAETs) all over the country.

So who was SSP Omar Shahid referring to? Students enrolled to become chartered accountants or its staff? These are some serious questions that we hope will be answered soon enough before a reputable organization suffers.

It’s true. Both TSA and Alhamd are involved in it. Mr. Tabani personally takes interest in organizing such lectures at his institute. Though Al-Hamd management is not involved in it, but a number of students studying at Alhamd belong to such groups, whether directly or indirectly.
