(Reuters) - Regulators may need tougher powers to crack down on auditors too slow to sound the alarm over company reports, two watchdogs said on Tuesday.
The Financial Services Authority and the Financial Reporting Council, which supervise banks and company reporting respectively, said auditors trust top management too much.
The watchdogs looked at how auditors could help them spot risks before they destabilise markets, a core lesson from the financial crisis.

The Bank of England has warned UK banks that it is essential that their balance sheets are not fudged to concentrate on end-period figures.
In its Financial Stability Report, the Bank said it was “essential” for banks to disclose honest reports.
